My high school students are looking at the intersection of science and art in the form of scientific illustrations and hybrids.
Recently we played a collaborative Surrealist ‘Exquisite Corpse’ game where each student drew part of a body, folded over the image so the next student couldn’t see, and then the next student drew the next part of the body.
Only instead of making it up, they were looking at the photo reference of actual animals.
In the process, they learned about drawing from observation.
The results were pretty awesome!
